Basia Radomski
Basia brings more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications and journalism to her consulting work. She started her career at the CBC as a writer and producer, working on some of the biggest news stories. She transitioned to communications management, working for a municipal government, advising the CAO, Mayor, politicians and senior leadership team on critical crisis issues, navigating relationships with provincial and federal agencies and leading communications through the COVID-19 pandemic. She acted as the Emergency Information Officer (EIO) in her role at the government, leading all emergency communications response, planning and execution during flooding, ice storms, major fires affecting community assets, and COVID-19. Basia also led the Municipality’s Tourism division, creating marketing and advertising plans to reach diverse audiences and attract visitors to the community and build brand recognition. Her communications and marketing plans are rooted in the principles established by the International Association for Public Participation – focused on the audience with tailored messages. She has honed this experience working in the private sector, leveraging her media skills and understanding of the inner workings of the government to successfully increase the share of market voice and media coverage for a large multinational law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright. She has a pragmatic approach to crisis communications, leveraging her media experience to anticipate stories and issues to frame out proactive best-in-class strategies to protect the company's reputation and brand.
Bill McKee
Bill has 25 years of experience in emergency services as a frontline firefighter and an acting captain with the largest fire department in Canada - Toronto Fire Services. As a licensed paralegal, an emergency management project manager and analyst, and an executive board member for the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association (TPFFA), Bill brings a range of experiences to his consulting. He has represented clients before the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT). He was responsible for setting a noteworthy decision at the WSIAT in 2014, recognizing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in firefighters. This noteworthy decision was a catalyst for presumptive legislation covering post-traumatic stress for all first responders in Ontario, recognizing PTSD as an occupational disease with an entitlement to receive workers’ compensation benefits. In his role as an Executive Board member with the fourth-largest firefighters’ union in North America, TPFFA, Bill was instrumental in union negotiations, collective bargaining, grievances, human rights, workplace investigations, disciplinary hearings, and government relations. He is uniquely positioned to leverage his diverse experience and help organizations facing crisis and issues management as well as, emergency management challenges, providing strategic advice on tactical decision-making, labour relations, leadership and legislative requirements relating to emergency operations. At Calian Group, Bill was an emergency management analyst and project manager, leading teams and consulting on major projects, including TTC, Manitoba Health and the Region of Peel, developing emergency response plans, providing business continuity assessments, as well as leadership and team coaching. He is a keen strategist and brings valuable frontline emergency management knowledge, which, combined with his legal, labour relations, and management experience, allows him to view issues from a multidimensional lens and create solutions that get to the crux of the problem.
